How to Disable Google AI Results in Search

Google now provides an AI overview for nearly all search queries. While this feature can be helpful for some users by streamlining information retrieval, it can also clutter the search results page. Additionally, the AI overviews are sometimes inaccurate, which is a primary reason many users prefer to disable them.

Can You Turn Off Google AI Overviews?
Yes, Google’s Search Lab offers an option to disable AI overviews on the search page. However, this only turns off some AI-generated results, not all of them. To completely eliminate Google AI Overviews, you will need to adjust your browser settings.

Disable Google AI Overviews and More
Since Google AI Overviews are still experimental, you can turn them off without needing any extensions or major modifications. However, keep in mind that this will not disable all AI overviews in Search.

1. Open the Google Chrome browser and navigate to: [labs.google.com/search/manage](https://labs.google.com/search/manage).
2. On the Manage Experiments screen, toggle off AI Overviews and more.
3. Now, perform a Google search. If the AI Overview still appears, click on More and select Web.

Using an Extension to Disable Google AI Overviews
One of the simplest methods to turn off Google AI Overviews is by using a dedicated Chrome extension. Here’s how to do it:

1. Download and install the Hide Google AI Overviews extension from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Once installed, restart your browser.
3. After restarting, use Google Search as usual; the AI Overviews will no longer be displayed.

Disable Google AI Overviews Without an Extension
If you prefer not to use an extension, you can adjust the Chrome settings to disable Google AI Overviews. Although the instructions are for Chrome, they may also work in other web browsers. Here’s how:

1. Launch the Google Chrome browser.
2. In the address bar, enter the following URL and press Enter:

chrome://settings/searchEngines

3. Click the Pencil (Edit) icon next to Google (Default).
4. In the Edit Search Engine prompt, change google.com to google.com/ncr and click Save.
5. Next, click the Add button in the Site Search section.
6. Fill in the following details on the Edit Site Search prompt and click Add:
– Name: Google (Web)
– Shortcut: google.com
– URL: {google:baseURL}/search?udm=14&q=%s
7. After adding the search engine, click on the three dots next to it and select Make Default.

Once you’ve made these changes, restart your browser and perform a Google search. The AI Overview should no longer appear on your search results page.

Disable Google AI Overview on Mobile
Unfortunately, Google Chrome for Android or iOS does not allow you to edit search engine entries. To disable Google AI Overviews, you can use Firefox or a similar browser. Here’s how:

1. Download and install the Firefox browser on your mobile device.
2. Open the browser and go to Settings > Search.
3. In the Search settings, tap on Default Search Engine.
4. On the Default search engine screen, tap + Add Search Engine.
5. In the name field, enter Google Web. Paste the following URL in the Search String URL field, then tap Save:

google.com/search?udm=14&q=%s

6. Once done, select Google Web as your default search engine.

Not everyone appreciates the AI Overview on the Google Search page. If you’re among those who prefer to turn off this feature, follow the steps outlined in this guide to completely disable it. Learn More
