How to Download and Install the new Copilot App on Windows 11

Microsoft released a new Copilot app for Windows 11 a few days ago. It has a new user interface and is exclusive to certain Insider Program testers. The program will be included in Windows 11 stable builds if it gets a good reaction. What’s new with the latest version of the Copilot app? Let’s talk about it in more depth. What is the new Windows 11 Copilot app? Like ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot is an AI chatbot. There are two versions of it: the free and the premium.

The free version of Copilot is more widely used than Copilot Pro. Coplit can interact with your text inputs, manage your PC’s features and settings, create AI images, summarize lengthy text passages, and more, just like other AI chatbots. Install the latest version of the Copilot app for Windows 11. The new Copilot app is included in the newly released first preview of Windows 11 version 24H2. It is still only available to a select group of testers in the Insider Program, though.

Windows 11 users eagerly waiting to get their hands on the new app need to do the manual installation. Below, we have shared steps to download and install the official Copilot app on Windows 11.

Important: You don’t need to join any insider channel to install & use the new app; just follow the steps below.

  1. Download the ZIP file

  2. Once downloaded, right-click on the ZIP file and select Extract All.

  3. The ZIP file will be extracted to the same location.

  4. Open the Extracted folder and delete these two files:

AppxBlockMap.xml
AppxSignature.p7x

  1. After deleting the two files, open the Windows 11 Start button and select Settings.

  2. On the Settings, switch to the System tab.

  3. On the right side, click on For developers.

  4. Next, enable the toggle for Developer Mode.

  5. Return to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file. Press CTRL + Shift Key together and right-click anywhere in the folder. On the menu that appears, select Open in Terminal.

  1. When the Windows Terminal opens, execute this command:

powershell.exe Add-AppxPackage -Register AppxManifest.xml

  1. After executing the command, close the Windows Terminal app and open the Windows 11 Start Menu. You will find the new Copilot app.

  2. Now, you can sign in to your Microsoft account and continue using the Copilot app.

After using the new app for some time, we discovered that it is actually a web application. Having a dedicated app is still preferable, though, particularly if you dislike having to use a web browser each time you wish to use the chatbot. To install the Copilot app on Windows 11 without being a member of the Windows Insider Program, follow the instructions we’ve provided.
