Microsoft and Truecaller, a provider of caller ID services, are about to launch a new AI-powered tool that will let users record their own voice to answer incoming calls.
A new feature has been added to Truecaller: AI-driven Helper
The “Personal Voice” technology from Microsoft Azure AI Speech is used by the new AI-powered functionality, which is a component of Truecaller’s AI assistant. It enables users to record a brief digital version of their voice for usage within the Truecaller Assistant.
First available on the Truecaller app in September 2022, Truecaller’s AI Assistant can answer calls for users automatically, screen calls and inform callers of the reason for the call, decide whether the call is worth answering, take messages, reply on their behalf, or record calls for later viewing.

People who already have Assistant on their Truecaller app will now be able to answer calls in their “real” voice rather than one of the numerous preset numbers of digital voices that represented them thanks to the arrival of Microsoft Azure AI Speech’s Personal Voice feature in Truecaller.
To use the feature, consumers must record a few seconds of their own voice to create a digital voice while setting up Truecaller Assistant. However, this functionality will be available only to Truecaller Premium subscribers.
Raphael Mimoun, Product Director and General Manager of Truecaller Israel, said that integrating Microsoft Azure AI Speech’s personal voice capability into Truecaller is a significant step “towards delivering a truly personalized and engaging communication experience.”
He added, “The personal voice feature allows our users to use their own voice, enabling the digital assistant to sound like them when handling incoming calls. This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants. We firmly believe that the personal voice feature will revolutionize the way our users manage their calls and elevate their overall experience with Truecaller Assistant.”
According to Microsoft, watermarks are automatically added to speech output produced by human voices using Azure AI Speech, which is presently accessible to a limited number of customers. In the upcoming weeks, Truecaller adds, premium users in India, the US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Chile, and South Africa will be able to access the “Personal Voice” feature through a public beta.
