How to Download and Install the New Copilot App on Windows 11

Microsoft recently introduced a new Copilot app for Windows 11, which comes with an updated user interface. Currently, this app is only available to select users in the Insider Program for testing. If feedback is positive, the app may eventually be rolled out to all Windows 11 users in stable builds.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new Copilot app and how to install it on your Windows 11 device.

What is the New Copilot App for Windows 11?
The Microsoft Copilot app is an AI-powered chatbot similar to ChatGPT, offering both free and premium versions.

In its free version, Copilot can interact with users through text inputs, control system settings, generate AI images, summarize long pieces of text, and more. Essentially, it functions as a digital assistant for your Windows PC.

The Copilot app is currently only available as part of the Windows 11 version 24H2preview for certain users in the Insider Program. However, you can manually install the app by following these steps.

Note: You don’t need to join any Insider channel to download and use the app; just follow the instructions below.

Steps to Install the Copilot App:

1. Download the ZIP file from the provided link.

2. After downloading, right-click the ZIP file and choose Extract All.

3. The file will extract to the same folder. Open the extracted folder.

4. Delete the following two files from the extracted folder:
– AppxBlockMap.xml
– AppxSignature.p7x

5. Next, click the Start button and select Settings.

6. In the Settings window, switch to the System tab.

7. On the right-hand side, click on For developers.

8. Enable the toggle for Developer Mode.

9. Go back to the folder where you extracted the ZIP file. Press CTRL + Shift and right-click anywhere in the folder. From the context menu, select Open in Terminal.

10. In the Windows Terminal, run the following command:

powershell.exe Add-AppxPackage -Register AppxManifest.xml

11. Once the command is executed, close the Windows Terminal and open the Start Menu. You should now see the new Copilot app listed.

12. Open the Copilot app, sign in with your Microsoft account, and start using it.

A Web-Based App
After using the new Copilot app, you’ll notice it functions as a web app, meaning it runs in a browser-like environment. Despite this, having a dedicated app can be more convenient, especially if you prefer not to open a web browser each time you want to use the chatbot.

By following these steps, you can manually install and experience the new Copilot app on your Windows 11 device, even if you’re not part of the Insider Program. Keep an eye out for future updates, as this AI-powered assistant may soon become available to more users. Learn More
