How to Recover Lost and Corrupted Photos On iPhone

Following the preview of iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 event last month, Apple has released the first public beta version of the operating system, offering a glimpse into the exciting features coming to iPhones later this year.

Recover Accidentally Deleted Photos and Videos with iOS 18

In addition to introducing new customization options for the iPhone interface, iOS 18 includes significant upgrades to the Photos app. The revamped Photos app leverages AI to automatically organize your library into categories such as Recent Days, Trips, and People & Pets. The new Pinned Collections feature allows for quick access to your most important albums.

A recent report from 9to5Mac reveals that iOS 18 introduces a new “Recovered” album feature within the Photos app, designed to help users recover lost or damaged images and videos that may have been accidentally deleted.

This “Recovered” section will also be available on iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, functioning consistently across all three platforms.

When you upgrade to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS Sequoia, your device will automatically scan for previously inaccessible photos or videos that can be recovered. These will be displayed in the new “Recovered” album alongside the existing “Recently Deleted” album. Once identified, you can choose to permanently delete or restore them to your Photos library.

It’s important to note that the “Recovered” album will only appear if there are lost or damaged photos on your device. If there are no recoverable images or videos, the album option will not be visible.

How to Delete or Restore Photos in iOS 18 Beta:
1. Open the Photos app and tap on “Albums.”
2. Scroll down to find the “Utilities” sub-menu.
3. Tap on “Recovered” and verify your identity using Face ID or Touch ID to access the album.
4. Select a photo or video to restore, or use “Select” to choose multiple items.
5. Tap on “Permanently Delete” or “Restore to Library.”

Currently, the betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia are available exclusively to developers and public beta testers. The public release of these operating systems is expected this fall. Learn More
